I found out that I can get packages with food - hallelujah - haha! It just goes to the letter place and I have to pick it up. (Just need her to let us know where the "letter place" is!) If it isn't picked up that day or whatever, then you pay a fee. But I still get it. They just have to open it in front of you to make sure there are no drugs. Packages need to have pictures of Christ on them - then people leave them alone.
We went to a place called Price Smart - totally just like Costco. I felt like I was in Utah again. There were TV's all over showing a battleship movie. No temptation - don't worry. We can only buy a few things because we are poor (have to budget)and have to carry everything on the bus and a long way back to our apartment. We really have to budget. The prices here are maybe a little higher in some places than Utah.
The rain here is insane. I wear my crocs and pink rain boots. I have never in my life seen so much rain before. Yesterday, we went to the church to meet up with a member who came to teach with us and literally, there was a waterfall coming off the roof of the building. My cheap umbrella broke and had to resort to buying a new one. Hopefully, this one will work.
They don't have pumpkin stuff here. However, my companion said we could go to a Halloween Store to just look around on our P-day. The ward members said they might have a Halloween Activity for me? We will see. Our cook said we'll have to eat some candy and tell a scary story.
I was able to watch the Relief Society Women's Conference. Everything was in Spanish. I prayed so hard to understand what they were saying...and guess what...tender mercies. I did pretty well. Every time I try to understand people and pray for help, Heavenly Father follows through with help. General Conference - we are gathering with all missionaries and we will hear and see it in English. However, my Spanish is coming along. My companion and I are getting into the groove of teaching and contacting. I speak most of the time on one side of the street and she speaks most of the time on the opposite side. This forces me to practice and gain consistency.
I have been put in charge of teaching my district English. I get to use every thing that I learned in my ESL (English as a second language) classes. I will be able to put this on my resume when I get home. It is so awesome. I love teaching them. It is so fun listening to them try to speak English. It is so much easier learning a language with God's help. The spirit really makes the difference.
Our Investigators: We had to drop two families because of no progression - haven't come to church. We have 3 families committed to baptism - but they need to come to church - it is tough because so many people are poor and most work on Sunday.
The area is funny, here. They have movie posters everywhere, here and play oldies love songs all the time outside. It's hilarious. I have sent pictures of my apartment and me eating my first snickers bar - nuts? - no reaction and didn't like it. I did have a reaction to something else I ate - I guess with peanuts - but I'm ok. I love being here. It is hard - but so worth it. I also sent a picture of my companion and I as clowns - wishing mom a happy birthday. Hope it was great. Love, Hermana Jones
