MY BIRTHDAY - Monday - February 4, 2013

My Birthday!!!!! Monday, February 4, 2013
Today we went to a mall in Cartago. We also went to an old Catholic Temple and ended up seeing my old cook from Conception - my first area. He saw my red hair and knew that it was me! Pretty funny. We asked him to join us for a while to celebrate my birthday. We walked around the grounds and took pictures. We also went to McDonalds for lunch. My companion bought me a shirt that said Pura Vida on the front and on the back it says: Hermana Jones. That was so sweet of her. I have no idea how she did it because I am with her all the time. She must have had a member do it for her.
Yesterday, we had dinner with a family in the ward. The wife made me a birthday cake. Tonight we are meeting with some inactive members and they are making dinner for us to celebrate my birthday. Really great people and a great day. They are so incredible.I can't believe that I am 24 years old. Bah!!!! I also received a few letters from some of my friends and friends from the Missionary Training Center - who are now in Chile and a really sweet girl from Costa Rica that randomly sent me a birthday wish. I have found out that all of my friends at home are pregnant. Again - Bah!!!!!! I am old!!!!
The sun is shining outside. FINALLY! It has been so downright cold, ok...I know I can't really say anything, but when you don't have clothes or a home really built for cold, you feel it down to the bone. I'm going to buy a hat, gloves and a scarf. I wear my sweatshirt at night outside because it's so cold. I know you are a lot colder than here. It is really tropical here so it's rainy a lot of the time. We have earthquakes all the time. It will shake for a little bit during a lesson. No big deal. Totally used to it. Spanish is great. My old cook said my Spanish is incredible and totally different than before. At least no major mess ups.
We had a baptism this week. It is a 12 year old girl who comes to church with some members. She was a reference from the cook we have now. Her dad and grandma are members and she goes to mutual every week. In our first lesson she said...baptize me! She said let's make this as quick as possible because I want to be a member now! She wanted us to teach her every day so we could baptize her. The young man that was visiting his mom for the holidays - decided to not go back to his dad - but to stay with his mom - so we can continue to teach him and he wants to be baptized. He is 15 years old. He will be baptized next week - Tuesday. He is such a great young man. His mom wants to join the church but she works on Sundays and his uncle was listening to the lessons - but he is moving - so we won't be able to teach him anymore. The members are getting super excited about missionary work! We have an activity this Saturday for Valentine's Day (dia de amor y amistad) for members to bring their friends and neighbors. This is such a good ward. After three weeks with them, it feels like the three months I had in Concepcion. They feel like family sometimes. They are so helpful and supportive. I think that all the activities I have done in church at home - I have been able to help them come up with ideas and fun things to do.
The people here (Catholic Church) are celebrating a Saint a week. They have been setting off fireworks at like 5 in the morning and late at night! We wake up stressed because it sounds like gun shots. Crazy!!!

I am so grateful to be here. I love, love, love my mission! Love you, Hermana Jones (Jennifer)
