Monday - April 8, 2013

Ok....so since I wrote you on Wednesday, nothing much has really happened. Ha-ha. Just your basic everyday working hard and changing lives including mine!!! Conference was great! I kind of understood it. We watched it in Spanish for two reasons.....the first---Elder Bergeson and I are the only ones who need it in English and we can't be in a room together alone watching it and 2nd, we had investigators there so I decided to sit with them instead. Yeudi and Pricila came to conference--the whole day on Sunday! They loved it and are all about it! It's so funny. Hna. Pricila really liked how that those who spoke say how "we all" need to work on things....that the general authorities are included in enduring to the end. They always relate it to Catholicism and how the leaders say you all need to change and be better and Catholic leaders don't.

Yeudi and Pricila also went to the meeting for couples Friday night at the church and loved it! AND, Yeudi went to Priesthood Session Saturday night after work. We taught them Sunday after church about tithing. Pricila was cracking me up because when we said our lesson is about tithing, she said "FINALLY"! She's been waiting and super excited to hear about tithing and how they can participate. They also had an experience with some family members defending our religion! Someone said "Where does it say in the bible that we need to pay tithing." Pricila studied and searched but didn't know. She explained that we live by faith and some other things totally defending the truth! She said she and Yeudi got a little bit frustrated because she wasn't accepting anything they said. We said welcome to what we do every day. Ha-ha. They are excellent and super stoked for their baptism. Yeudi thankfully has work off this Saturday and all the people they want to come, can! Answer to prayers. Their interview is this Tuesday so we are looking forward to that. They committed to pay tithing and keep the Sabbath day holy. Seriously, this family is so awesome! I can't believe how blessed we are to have found them. They are such good examples to those around them. Oh and about conference, can you guys send me the Ensign/Liahona magazine when you send me shoes? We get the Ensign/Liahona magazine so late here and I really want to know and understand what they said! Thank you!
Other investigators are doing just fine. We are still teaching Alondra. We started teaching the mom and sister of Jahleel again and committed them to baptism again for May. The sister is totally progressing. She's 10 and adorable. We also found some new families to teach through contacting and references. It's so true that there are really people who are ready to hear the gospel. We just need to pray for help to find them. We have really been relying on the Spirit to help us out. In lessons, we have four people teaching because we are including the Spirit more. I love that we teach that way instead of scripted lessons. It's incredible how the Spirit really will tell you what to teach and what scriptures to use. People are really progressing in this area! Our Ward is growing and helping out a lot.
Oh....one funny story. We went to Pricila and Yeudi's on Thursday to teach them. Well...first time in Cachi and we got a little bit lost. When we finally found their house, we only had 20 minutes to teach them. So we planned their baptism for this upcoming week. Then Pricila said we needed to hurry because the last bus for the night would be coming soon. Well...soon was like 3 minutes and the only bus stop is down further in town about a mile. Hna. Pricila said run but really...run! Ha-ha. I booked it out of there and my comps were behind me running but laughing too because I was running so fast. I was scared we were going to miss the bus. I seriously was sprinting down the hill. I thought I was going to trip on a rock or something in the dark. I got to the bus stop out of breath. There was a group of men who work on the corner and I asked them if the bus had come with many pauses between words trying to catch my breath. They told me to calm down, that it hadn't come! I told my comps we were fine and then one man slid over and very creepily told us we could sit down and catch our breath. Thankfully just at that moment, the bus came! What a blessing! Perfect timing with everything. We were cracking up because it was Hna. Ponce's first lesson and we had to run. I said, welcome to the mission. Ha-ha.
Another story.....this Saturday night, when we passed by an investigators home, she explained to us that her son who is a drug addict drank a mixture of mushrooms and some other drugs and was super intoxicated! Like it was practically in his blood stream and could die at any moment. We called Stephen (boyfriend of my friend Dayanna in our Ward). Thankfully, the Priesthood session had just ended and he answered his phone. We explained what was going on and he said he would send someone to give a blessing. As we were waiting, I told my comps that the men were going to show up all pumped about priesthood authority especially after the session. Well...a car full of 6 priesthood holders showed up including the elders. They were so funny because they really were super energized and ready to show the priesthood power. I tried not to laugh and to take the situation seriously. We got back to the house and explained who the men were. We waited outside while the men entered the tiny home. The spirit was incredibly strong. When they entered, it really did look like angels had entered. We sisters literally felt the strong power of God. That's when it hit each of us how real the Priesthood power is. I love Priesthood! The men who hold this power and authority really can perform miracles in the world just like Christ. I wish I could explain a little bit more about this night but it's hard to explain what we felt. I just know now more than ever how grateful I am for this power on the Earth. We are so blessed! You men, just always stay worthy to hold the Priesthood.
Comps---awesome! My new comp is rock solid just like President told me. Her name is Hna. Sohany Ponce. She is 23 and from Honduras. We are practically the same height. She has such a knowledge of the gospel! It’s incredible. She's already been teaching in lessons and taking parts. It's like she's from the states with how comfortable she is talking about the church. I love the way she explains things to people. She is so focused on listening to the Spirit and following the guidance given. I am so grateful for her. We are teaching just great in our trio. Each of us takes a part and explains. I feel like Hna. Ponce has already had time on the mission and I'm her second comp. I only have to show her a few things but other than that, she's great! She helps a lot with Hna. Noj. Hna. Noj is also progressing and doing a great job. We are working well together and having a lot of fun. I actually enjoy teaching in three because I don't have to talk so much. Ha-ha. It's a little hard in training because I have to explain things to Hna. Ponce. Hna. Noj helps a ton. I just tell her to explain what we do and how we do it. So really...we are doing just fine. The changes meeting was a lot of fun because I love to see all my friends!
I do love home but I sure love Costa Rica. I really do love the people and the way they talk. They have all these fun sayings that I wish we said in English. I have a feeling it will be a hard transition for me from Spanish to English. I'm really enjoying my mission and am so grateful for all the experiences I have had. I can't believe I almost didn't serve a mission! I have grown so much closer to the Savior and have come to really rely on Him and Heavenly Father. Training two newbies is really preparing me for when I'm a mom. We were walking in the Street and I was looking around constantly to make sure they were both ok and right behind me or in front of me. I kept laughing at that. The zone leaders have nicknamed me Mama Jones. We have a lot of fun. Sorry this is short. Things are going well. Just know that I love you. Every day is a lesson to be learned and to become more like Christ and Heavenly Father. That’s our purpose here on Earth. We accepted it when we came. More stuff next Monday! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Oh and cut my hair. And colored it. But not much.
Hna. Jones
