Hello Everyone -
I'm doing fine. I'm
happy but a little bit stressed like usual. Ha-ha. No surprise there. Hna.
Marquez had changes this week which was really sad. I really wanted to continue
working with her. She needed a change from this area. Right now, she is in Tres
Rios. All the sister leaderships had changes. We all kind of rotated
companions. I'm now with Hna. Portillo. We were in the same zone in Tres Rios
together when we started. We have the exact same amount of time in the mission.
All the Latin sisters that entered the MTC the same time I did are heading home
in the December change. But they all need to start school. I'm going to talk
with President and see what happens for me. My
comp had been in Puntarenas and had some medical problems over there. She
talked with President and said some things that she needed and one of those
things was a comp who is caring and loving. President told her, I know just the
companion for you and sent her to me. Ha-ha. Too funny. My new comp is great.
I've known her since day one that I got here to Costa Rica. We get along pretty
well. She's super obedient. I mean SUPER
obedient. Ha-ha. She is direct and works HARD! She's always going and making
things better. I've learned so much from her. I'm learning to not waste time
and to be a little bit more direct with people. I'm still loving but just
trying to find a good balance between the two. I don't want to let people walk
all over me. Ya know? I want to stand up and be confident and strong. We're
helping each other. I do miss Hna. Marquez. Hna. Portillo is 22 and from El Salvador.
She's a convert of 3 years (was going to be a nun when the missionaries found
her). Her mom is the only other member in their family and she was baptized
only a month ago. She's awesome! A tough worker. She told me to help her out
with expressing her feelings.
Hna. Ponce, still doing
great! I emailed her today. We email back and forth every Monday. That
friendship really will never die. Ha-ha. She’s great. Yeudi and Pricilla are
fine but need to understand the purpose of going to church with the sacrament. Evelyn
from Concepcion has 6 weeks of not going!!! Super concerned about her. I'm
going to write her a letter and try to help her out. It's frustrating because I
wish that I would have known then what I know now.
We still have Laura, Moises,
Jose, Roger, Sobeida. We are focusing on them and pushing super hard with them!
We are fighting Satan with each of them. Laura and Moises....well....I talked
with Laura on the phone Friday night. I told her that we wanted to prepare them
for baptism and their wedding this coming weekend. She said...ok that's fine. I
said...what? And she laughed and said, yes...Hna. Jones, that's fine...baptize
me! Ha-ha. I freaked out. So we thought...yes! Baptism! But then they didn't
come to church on Sunday and haven't answered our phone calls. Kind of
frustrating. But working on that. I'm trying to figure out how to enter the
heart of Moises. I was reading about the liahona in the Book of Mormon and I
think that this story will help him to test the Book of Mormon out and read it.
We’ll see how it goes. We are going to teach him that. Then Jose, HE FOUND A
HOUSE FOR HIS FAMILY HERE IN BELEN!!!!! Such a blessing! We explained to him
that Heavenly Father blessed him because he's been reading and going to church.
He's doing great. His family comes this coming weekend. Super excited to teach
them because we could teach all of them together this month! A new goal for us.
Roger is also a great investigator. We have been teaching him all this week. He's reading the Book of Mormon like crazy and remembering all it says. He's reading everything we give him. He came to movie night on Thursday that was about the restoration. Since it was him and another family there, we taught him and had him pray to know if this is true. He prayed with us in the sacrament room and we waited there on our knees for 20 minutes no joke waiting for him to open his eyes. When he opened his eyes, he said he saw a pathway without an end and homes along the side. He's been analyzing it all weekend. Then he and his wife came on Saturday to the couple’s lesson in church. And again to church on Sunday and to a lesson in a members home at night. We have been talking with him and it just seems like he wants an answer like Joseph Smith. He wants a dream or a vision to tell him this is true. We focused our whole lesson on how to know through the Holy Ghost. He's still committed to baptism not this week but the next. He's in the process of bringing the knowledge he has gained about the gospel from his head to his heart. He's a very logical person and loves how logical the gospel is but needs to feel it in his heart.
Those are our investigators. Oh, Tatiana, another investigator. We explained to her and she seemed to understand. She has a hard time getting up and coming to church. We have found some new people to teach and are working on finding unity with the ward. We taught a lesson to the ward on Sunday in the third hour about missionary work. We showed a video, explained that the work is simple and then showed some examples and had them practice. Our goal is to get more references from them. But it went really well. We have an activity this month that is going to be AWESOME! The bishop is so supportive and is doing everything he can to help us out. We didn't have a chance to do divisions this week because of changes so this coming week, we are working on that. We have more members helping us out which is great. My comp is super helpful in this because she's all about the work.
Playing with two of the cutest little girls....family in the ward.
Pajama party before changes! Hna. Marquez had changes.
New comp...Hna. Portillo...we were actually in the same zone in our first areas. Crazy!
Us on the bus today headed to hike with our zone.
The second bus was crazy packed.
Me and my comp swinging.
Playing volleyball then it rained.
Soaked after the game.
My district....me, Hna. Portillo, Elder Velasquez, someone new, Elder someone in front and Elder Johanson on the right.
I taught our zone the hand game that you play at girl’s camp. We played that as a zone. The Latin’s loved it and thought it was super funny.
Went hiking to another waterfall. Crazy!!! RAIN!
Us sisters
We are working extremely
hard. Our area is not dangerous. It’s very city, and we usually are out of the
areas before it gets crazy. Plus, members walk with us or help us out. So we
are being smart. Don’t worry. But still working hard. Unbelievably hard. But
still sometimes feel it's not good enough. We have a meeting with President
this Friday so we'll find out then on what we still need to do better and how
the new technology things will affect our mission. Well...have to head out. But
love you. Tell the kiddos I love them and give them big hugs and kisses from me.

Love Hna. Jones
